Songs from #20to20

Today is Olivia and I’s twentieth anniversary! Over on Instagram I have been posting a photo and song lyrics from the songs I’ve written for her over the years. Below is a playlist of the songs! They vary widely in quality and time period…haha. But they are the songs for your listening pleasure. Check out the posts over on Instagram.

So Right

Brand spanking new song written with Stephanie White. We actually got the idea in the middle of a very hurried rehearsal before a worship service. I recorded the snippet on my phone and then dug it up this week…everything about God is just so right…so perfect…just “yes.”

Everything About You
Ben Ward/Stephanie White

I want to sing to You when it’s cold outside
I want to sing to You in the darkest night
I want to sing to You when I’m full of fight
I want to sing to You in the morning light
‘Cause everything about You is so right

CHORUS 1
Full of mercy
Full of kindness
So beautiful
So wonderful

I want to sing to You from the highest heights
I want to sing to You when I’m out of sight
I want to sing to You when the way is tight
I want to sing to You, You’re my delight
‘Cause everything about You is so right

CHORUS 1

I want to sing to You when I don’t understand
I want to sing to You when I don’t see Your hand
I want to sing to You more than I can stand
I want to sing to You in the grander plan
You were here before time began

CHORUS 2
Full of power
Full of wisdom
So glorious
So marvelous

CHORUS 1

Help Me Believe

Brand new song about finding help to believe…lyrics below!

Help me Believe
Written by Ben Ward

My heart’s so stubborn
I keep running
Going nowhere
Standing still
Reasons keep crumbling
Falling and fumbling
My next step’s suddenly clear

CHORUS
Help me believe you love me
Help me believe you care
Help me believe you’re real
and not some part of my imagination
I’m standing waiting to see
Help me believe

Seems so easy
Everybody’s reaching
Don’t they doubt
Aren’t they afraid?
Seeing double
So much trouble
Remembering what to say

I remember
That November
You chased my fear away
So much blessing
No second guessing
I want you back, I want you to stay

CHORUS

I’m the first to say demonstrate, verify
Prove yourself, tell me why
I want to overcome
Start to trust
Give you a chance
Step into your love

Your Name – New Song

Wanted to write a simple song for the people to sing at church for a long time. I have some like Mover of Mountains and I Need You Lord, but I usually end up with way too many words and harmonies for the “common folk.” ;). This one turned out well I think! Let me know if you agree…

Your Name – Ben Ward

When I hear your name
I know everything’s going to be alright
When I hear your name
I know I’ll make it out alive
When I hear your name
Whispered, shouted, crying full of pain
When I hear your name
Everything’s changed

When I say your name
I feel my heavy heart get light
When I say your name
I see wrongs made right
When I say your name
If I whisper, If I shout it, If I sing it it’s the same
When I say your name
Everything’s changed

If all is right
Or much at stake
All I need to hear is your name
All I need to say is your name
Jesus

If all is right
Or much at stake
All I need to hear is your name
All I need to say is your name
Jesus

When I say your name
I see wrongs made right
When I hear your name
I know everything’s going to be alright
When I say your name
If I whisper, If I shout it, If I sing it it’s the same
When I hear your name – Jesus
When I say your name – Jesus
Everything’s changed

Original Song Mashup with Coldplay Yellow

I so love Coldplay…so I weaved in a little “Yellow” with a song I wrote with Stephanie White, “More.” The parts I used actually worked well, I think. How about you?

(I recorded this a couple of weeks ago. Hence, the Christmas Tree:)

More with Yellow
Written by Ben Ward, Stephanie White, and Coldplay

Look at the stars
See how they shine for you
And all the things you do

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And everything you do

More than enough for me
More than my eyes could see
More than my everything
Overflow, so much more
Here in my brokeness
Fill up my emptiness
Be more than my heart could hold
Overflow, so much more
More than enough for me

Your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn in to something beautiful
Do you know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
