The Season After Pentecost, Monday, Proper 26 in the Church Calendar

This week we are following the Daily Office lectionary with an episode Monday through Friday.

Our general order and lectionary comes from the Book of Common Prayer Daily Office. We’ll sing a song I wrote called “I Need You Lord.” We’ll then offer a Prayer of Confession. We’ll read Psalms 56 and 57 followed by the Gloria Patri. Our Scripture Lesson is Luke 12:49-59 . We’ll say the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Collect of the Day. We’ll then have a time of prompted prayer.

I Need You Lord
Ben Ward

I need You, Lord
More than I need the air
I’m breathing, Lord
My heart cries out to you
The One who made me
and gave me life
I drink Your living water
I need You, Lord
More than the very life in me

I need You, Lord
More than I need the thoughts
I’m thinking, Lord
My mind cries out to You
The One who made me
and gave me time
I rest within Your presence
I need You, Lord
More than the very life in me

And only You can satisfy
All other water left me dry
And now I’m looking in Your eye
Jesus, fill me
And heal my broken heart

I need You, Lord
More than I need bread
I’m eating, Lord
My flesh cries out to You
The One who made me
and gave me help
I ask and You deliver
I need You, Lord
More than the very life in me

Collect of the Day
Proper 26, Rite Two

Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
