So today is the day for one of my favorite lyrics…
Now the first of December was covered with snow, and so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston (James Taylor, Sweet Baby James)
Something about that picture, I know exactly how he feels for some reason. Plus living in Boston for a few years helps :).

A couple more…

…He said a good song never comes to those who chase, it comes to those who listen (Darrell Scott, My Father’s House)
This is my theme for songwriting. I think it applies to much of life as well. Even as a believer, I need to quit talking and LISTEN!

When you walk into the room you know we can’t resist. Every bottle of perfume always ends up on the floor in a mess (John Mark Mcmillan, Dress Us Up)
This is one of favorite worship lyrics of all time. It references the story of Mary pouring the perfume on Jesus’ feet (John 12:3). This is one of the purest expressions of worship in Scripture. This lyric frames it in an entirely new way for me.
“If confession is the road to healing, forgiveness is the promised land…”
from “What If I Stumble” by dc Talk
“Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you…”
“Bookends Theme” by Simon & Garfunkel
(And pretty much every song ever written & performed by Simon & Garfunkel–as they’re my most favorites in the wide world.)
“…and my words are paper tigers, no match for the predator of pain inside her…”
from “Love Will Come To You” by Indigo Girls
Finally…
every word of the song “In Christ Alone.” The Adrienne Liesching & Geoff Moore version, that is, particularly the second to last stanza…
“There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
then bursting forth in glorious day
up from the grave He rose again
and as He stands in victory
sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
for I am His and He is mine
bought with the precious blood of Christ…”
I am unable to sing that song without sobbing in thankfulness & cheering in triumph. Amen!
Oh, so good. I’m with you on In Christ Alone…I am His and He is Mine…awesome. I’m with you on S&G…I play the vinyl of The Graduate often :).
Ben,
That’s one of my favorites too
